FLOODS IN NORTHERN WAIROA.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. By Telegraph—Press DARGAVILLE, September 2. Very heavy rainfall during the last few days has done considerable damage in Northern Wairoa. Last night the Dargaville township was inundated by water to a depth of several inches, the river having overflowed its banks. Several business firms suffered heavy losses, the damage to goods belonging to Mr Adams, draper, running into over £IOO. The losses at Dargaville are, however, nothing compared to those occasioned alone the lower reaches of the river, especially at Raupo, where cattle have been standing on the flats for several days, with water up to their bellies, and not a blade of grass to be seen. Matters are very serious. Hundreds of acres are submerged, and a number or settlers will probably be ruined as a result of the visitation. The floods are the biggest known for twenty years.
