JACK AND JILL.
Mr J. 0. Wililamson's pantomime will make its first appearance in Masterton at the Town Hall to-night, for a season of one night only. The piece brings with it such a reputation from Australia and the chief centres of New Zealand that there should be no doubt as to its prospects here. The company presenting it is not only the largest that has ever toured New Zealand, but includes many artistsi of worldwide reputation. In spite of the magnitude of the production everything will be in readiness for the rise of the curtain at 7.45 o'clock this evening, as an army of Mr Williamson's most expert mechanics is travelling with the company. Speaking of the Mebolurne production, the "Herald" says:—"The master craftsman is writ large over the whole production. It is mounted on a superb and lavish scale, and the dressing is a fine study in colour harmonies. The chorus and ballet show splendid discipline. The stage pictures are magnificent, and deserving of the highest praise. One can sit comfortably in the theatre and watch the bevy of bathing girls romping gleefully in the surf, while the billows roll in and break over them in glistening foamy spray. The magic hill is a panorama of icicled beauty, enveloping witches, demons, fairies, gnomes, and mortals alike. The spell is broken and instantly winter vanishes and summer reigns, clothing the landscape in a floral robe of richly varied colours; and 'so on through the evening surprise follows surprise; spectacle surpasses spectacle, until the whole merry story culminates in a perfect blaze of glory in the "Palace of Precious Stones" with the "Grand March of the Jewels " Box plans of reserved seats are on view at Miss Rive's.
