Mr Seaton, of the Cross' Creek . railway staff, has been transferred to Hawera. The death occurred at Nelson yes- > tarday of Mr Robert Snoderass, a > well-known merchant, at the age of £ seventy years. r Mr and Mrs F Smith, of Dalefield, t will leave there shortly to take up j < their residence at Nelson. On Friday ' t evening they are to be tendered a ' > farewell social by the residents of 1 *.he district. < Mr A. B. Lawrence, Manager of frhe Masterton Branch of the Union Bank of Australia, will leave to-mor-row on a short holiday. During his absence he will be relieved by Mr W. G. 0. France, of Wellington. News has been received in Auck- \ land of the death at Guadalcanal { British Solomon Islands, of the Rev. , Frank Bollen. Deceased, who was a | New Zealander, joined the Melan- j esian Mission in 1905. \ Mr S. B Williams, of the Grey- ( town branch of the Bank of New i Zealand, \s to be transferred to i Dannevirke. Mr Williams, who is i well known in Masterton, has re- i sided in Grey town about fifteen ' months, and proved himself an i obliging and courteous officer. The whole of the bodies affiliated to the New Zealand Employers' Fed- ' eration have approved the suggestion that Mr William Scott, of Dunedin, should be nominated for the position '■ of employers' representative on the : Arbitration Court caused by the death of Mr Sam Brown. The Advisory Board oi the federation intends asking the industrial unions j of employers to nominate Mr Scott i for the position. News reached Carterton, on Mon- \ day, of the death of Mr Nason, a former settler of Carterton, which j took place at Matamau, Dannevirke, writes our Carterton correspondent. I The late Mr Nason resided here for a great many years, and was very popular, chiefly due to his kind disposition. He left Carterton a few years ago to reside in Petone, and j was away on a holiday at the time i of his death. He leaves a wife and family. Mr George Palmer, formerly of the 4Uth Regiment, died at the Veterans' Home, Auckland, last week, aged 67 years. The deceased, who was a native of Dorsetshire, joined his regiment in 1861, and saw considerable service. During the Maori war, deceased was at Waitara. Mer- | cer, and Rangiriri. He was one of twelve who formed a scaling party, and of whom only six reached the top of the pa. After serving his term of engagement deceased took j his discharge, and followed farming j pursuits in the Whangarei district. I He was awarded the New Zealand war medal. This fine old soldiar was greatly comforted in his last few hours of life by a personal visit from his Excellency the Governor to his bedside.
