ARBITRATION COURT.
THE PENGUIN CLAIMS, By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 30. The Arbitration Court had before it to-day a number of claims for compensation arising out of the wreck of the Penguin in February last. The claims are generally admitted, the only question being the amount of compensation. In the ease of Albert Geo. Lusemore, third officer, the Union Company aareed to pay £SOO to the Public Itustee for the benefit of th* widow. In the case of the claim by the parents and brother of Walter Rentoul, engineer, Mr Justice Sim said when the Court was properly constituted by the appointment of a successor to the late S. Brown, employers' representative, it would probably make an order on the basis of £135 and costs. An order was made by consent for the payment of £207 to the mother of Francis Driscoll, second officer. The Court stated that in the case of the claim by the mother of the late Mrs Hope, stewardess, it was prepared to make an order for £72 compensation, it necessary. His Honour was informed that several claims had been settled out of court. The hearing;of other claims against the Union Company was adjourned till Thursday.
