THE RANGITIKEI SEAT.

There is no dearth of candidates for the Rangitikei seat. Already Messrs George Hutchison and F. Hockley are out in the Opposition interest; Messrs R. E. Hornblow and R. W. Smith are standing as Government supporters, the latter being pledged to the freehold, and it is understood that Mr MeKlrum. a well-known solicitor in Hunterville, will also be a contestant. Though the Government will not place their brand on any of the candidiates supporting their policy, yet it is understood that privately they favour Mr Meldrum. As to the Opposition candidates there is reason to believe that Mr Hutchison will retire from the cotir test in order to give Mr Hockley a clear run. Mr Hutchison intends to go through the electorate, and says that if he finds the feeling of the party in favour of Mr Hockley he will withdraw.
