NEW ZEALAND LADIES' TOURNAMENT. CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY MRS bEVAN. By Tejegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., August 24. The New Zealand Ladies' Championship was finished to-day in superb weather. It is generally recognised that the golf at this meeting has been of a higher standard than at any previous New Zealand ladies' meeting, and tne performance of Mrs Bevan in the. semi-final to-day in knocking five more off the links record will take a very great deal of beating. She showed quite too much good play for Miss Humphreys, who was nevertheless playing golf that would have stood her well in any other heat, and read 79 fur 15 h.las. Both players showed splendid form. Tne final in the afternoon was between Mrs Bevan and Miss Brandon. Both started ntrv)usly, evidently feeling the weight of the ebwd and the responsibility. Mrs Bjvan was particularly nervous nn the greens, and lost the first hole by 6 to 4. Five halfs followed, and then a hole apiece. Miss Brandon turning two up and adding another at the tenth only to lose the next three and two more halfs in five, and Mrs Bevan, with three to four, became one up and lost it by 6 to sat the 17ih. Both were missing short puts all along. The 18th hole looked like Miss Brandon's match, but Mrs" Bevan saved it, and winning the 19th with a ten-foot put on three to four took the championship. The rounds I w re 96 to 97, but would have been I brilliant but for miasin* the short ; puts the play (through the green I was unexceptional. I The . Consolation Handicap was won by Miss Fulton (18) 1 down.
