A FRONTIER INCIDENT.
FIRING ON A GERMAN BALLOON.
Received August 24, 8.5 a.m. BERLIN, August 23.
In connection with the reported firing at a German balloon r,n the Silesian frontier, on the 12th inst., it is assered that a bullet fired by the Russian Guards passed through the German balloon, damage being inflicted, while the balloon was still over German territory. A statement of the facts has been forwarded to the German Foreign Office.
It was first stated that the Russian guards fired at a German balloon which was crossing the Silesian frontier near Prozelaika, and compelled its descent. Tnree of the aeronauts in the balloon were said t) be killed, and a fourth was seriously woun'led. The Germans stated that the Russians opened fire before the balloon crossed the frontier. Later reports failed to confirm the reports of death or injury, but it was said the aeronauts were merely detained while their passports were examined, and were then allowed to depart.
