A BOLD ROBBERY.
WATCHMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.
FIVE OF THE MARAUDERS CAPTURED.

Using a duplicate key ten smartly dressed men entered Mappin and Webb's warehouse at Cheapside on Sunday afternoon. The robbers were discovered by the watchman, who attempted to give the alarm. The marauders at once 6et upon the latter and with a jemmy endeavoured to beat him into insensibility, inflicting serious wounds on the man's head.
Leaving the watchman as they thought in an unconscious condition the robbers went about the work of collecting the booty. The watchman, who had only beeri shamming unconsciousness, crawled to an entrance of the building and called for the police. The robbers made an attempt to escape as the police arrived. Five of the men got away, but the others emerging with several thousands worth o£ jewellery and plate were arrested. They had in their pockets masks and gloves, the latter being intended to conceal their finger prints. _ Seven thousand pounds worth of goods were found packed on the premises ready for removal. The capture is regarded as rf conisderable importance.
