LONDON JULY WOOL SALES.
' Messrs Dalgety and Co., reporting by mail on the progress of the July series of wool sales in London, state that "the opening day's catalogues were almost entirely composed of Nwe Zealand wools of rather a miscellaneous character, and although there was some slight hesi tation at the outset, competition on the whole was good, and prices gen-, erally showed very little change from May rates, except in the case of coarse, shabby greasy crossbred and slipe wools, which were about 5 per cent, lower. Ultimately more varied and better selections were offered, and the bidding increased in spirit, and buying on American account was more in eviderce, although not to the same extent as the May serifcs. "This is really the main difference in the market between May and now,"tho report continues,"as at last sales United States buyers w*>re outbidding ench other for all Mutable lots and forcing them up to extreme prices, whereas now they are buying with more discrimination, and 1 hough they stili pay highly for all light conditioned parcels, the fancy prices have disappeared. The general quality, too, of the offerings will be less attractive than in May, as both the Australian and New Zealand clips of last season are mainly disposed of, and although some new clip Queensland wools have arrived, the catalogues must contain many small and unattractive lots, besides speculators' parcels, which latter never sell so readily as first hand shipments, a*.d of which a fair quantity has already appeared among offerings to date." Attendance of buyers was large, and with the prospect of a two months' interval between tne close of these sales and the beginning of the September series, prices were expected to be well maintained at the then level, especially for all good wools.
