Barnett and Townsend. the two not-out men, continued the county innings. The over night partnership between the two had lasted for seven-ty-five minutes. The second wicket fell at 183, Barnett being caught at short leg after batting or 145 minutes.

Townsend continued scoring freely. He gave a fine display of hard driving and cutting, knocking up 50 in fifty minutes. Eventually he was caught by Macartney off Hopkins, after getting 17 runs. His innings, which lasted two hours, was marred by chances at 40 to Hopkins, and at 45 to Ransford, both off Whitty. He hit 21 fourers. Three for 233. Langdon fell to an easy catch in the slips, with the score at 258, and the fifth wickket fell fur 275. ■F. Roberts and Woolley became associated. Both played attractive I cricket. The 300 was hoisted in 255 minutes, Roberts' half century | taking seventy minutes. Woolley was finely caught by Ransford at square leg. Six for 350. The Two Roberts carried the total to 380, when Ransford took another square leg catch, disposing of F. Roberts. The retiring batsman played a free all-round game, his hits including 8 fourers. A. Roberta was joined by Brownlee, and the score mounted steadily. Then Roberts was taken cleverly in the slips by Hopkins. Eighc for 406.
