HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. '! he Department ->i Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London 14th inst.:—There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. Canterbury is quoted at 2Jd per lb and North Island at 2£d. The lamb market is demoralised. Stocks on hand are heavy, and are widely distributed amongst agents who are pushing sales. Average price New Zealand Jamb: Canterbury 3£d per lb, and North Island 21d. The beef market is firm. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3fd and fores at 2gd. The butter market is firm, and there is an increasing demand for better grades. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoced st 100s per cwt. (nominal); Danish 114s, Siberian 100s. The cheese market is firm with a, tendency in favour of buyers. New Zealand is quoted at 60s. The hemp market is very firm. Very little New Zealand offering. Reports from Manila indicate a large business. New Zealand hemp, good fair grade on spot, per ton, £25 15s; fair grade on spot, pur ton, £24 1 10s; fair current Manila, on spot, per ton, £25 10s; September to December shipments, New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £25; New Zealand fair grade per ton £24; fair current Manila, per ton, £2o; Manila output, 17,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market iB quiet. It is reported the American crop is large and of average quality. Average price of New Zealand cocksfoot seed weighing J 71b per bushel, on spot, is 66s per cwt. (nominal.) The wool market is firm, with more enquiry. Bradford tops are •quoted as follows:—36's low crossbreds, llfd per lb; 40'b low crossbreds, Is 0Jd: ( 44's medium crossbreus. lls£d;so's balfbreds, 16£ d; 56's quarte/bteds, Is lOd; 60' a merinos, 2s 2£d. The hop market is firm, and prices continue to advance.
