JOHNSON-JEFFRIES CONTEST. Received August 13, 8.55 a.m. LONDON, August 12. Reuter's Agency announces that Johnson and Jeffries signed articles yesterday for a fight to take place eight months' hence. Jeffries has started for Europe. Received August 13, 9 p.m. Jeffries denies having signed articles to fight Johnson. The v< Daily Mail's" New 'York correspondent reports that Berger, Jeffries' manager, signed tentative articles. AUCKLAND, August ltf. Burns, the * ex-champion boxer, writes to the Star's sporting editor that he is forwarding a cheque for £2OO to cover the deposit of T. Lees, ex-heavy-weight champion of Australia. Burns writes:—"l under/stake not to knock Lees out under any consideration, but will box him four or six rounds, just to show the public how good a boxer Tom Lees is.''
