THE SCHOOL MUSEUM.

FURTHER SUPPORT FROM THE TRUST LANDS TRUST.

At the meeting of the Trustees of the Trust Lands Trust last evening, the chairman, Mr Daniell, said that he would like to make a suggestion in regard to a site on which the museum had been erected. The site in question was the property of the Trust, and it was surrounded by a straggling fence that was certainly not ornamental. The section was much higher than the footpath, and the result was that the footpath was always covered with loose gravel. As far as the Trust was concerned the section was a burden, as rates had to be paid on it, and it was producing next to nothing iu return. He would like to suggest that now the museum was erected that the entire use of the main portion of the site be granted to the school on the condition that the Education Board fence in the section. A similar ar-

rangement was made some time ago in the case of a section on the south side of the school, and the result was eminently satisfactory to everyone. The matter was discussed at length, and as several Trustees expressed a desire to inspect the section in order to ascertain the particular size required to he enclosed and handed over, the matter was left in abeyance until the next meeting.

Mr Mirhell moved that' tenders be called for painting the outside and papering the interior of the museum.

This was carried, and the matte r was left in the hands of the chairman and the mover

Mr Michell brought up the mattef of a grant towards the purcnaso of the collection of reptiles which the Masterton Schoul Committee had been successful in procuring at a remarkably reasonable price. He moved that a sum v of £l2 10s be granted/for the purpose mentioned, which with the £1 for £1 subsidy would make £25.

Mr Krahagen said he had great pleasure in seconding the motion, and referred to the great educational value of the collection. Messrs Eton, Jackson, Caselberg, Pragnell, and others strongly supported the grant. The chairman moved as an amend-

ment that the matter be held over

until the question of fencing in , the museum section had been dealt with. Mr Wagg seconded the amendment, which on being put to the meeting was negatived, only the mover and seconder supporting it. The motion was then declared car ried.
