PERSONAL.
The death iB announced of a very familiar figure in Wangar.ui, Mr Charles Jeffcott, late of the 57th Regiment ("Die Hards"), aged 77. Mr Jeffcott saw active service in the Crimea, India and New Zsaland, remaining hera when the regiment went Home at the conclusion of the Maori war. The following appointments have been made by the Wellington Education Board to fill vacancies in the several schools named:—Taita, head tescher, Mr W*. H. Philip; Hutt District High School, assistant, Miss P. Myers; Admiral Run, Mr R. B. Hill; Masterton, assistant, Miss Von Keisenberg; Petone West, assistant, Mr J. Ogg; Mangatainoka, Mr P. Jackson. Another of the fast disappearingand sturdy class of pioneer settlers, Mrs Susan Hart, passed away at Ashhurst. on Wednesday morning. The deceased and her husband,, the lute Mr Richard Hart, who pre-de-ceasea her in 1903, came to New Zealand in the ship Ralcaia. The deceased, who was 71 years of age, and had resided in this district for thirty year?, was of a kindly nature, and was universally respected. A family ot six sons are left to mourn their loss, namely, Messrs A'ibert Hart (Ashhurst), John (Wanganui), William (Foxton), Robert (Ashhurst), George (Utiwai), Tom (Masterton).
