TENUI NOTES. The final match for Mr Maunsell's , handsome cup was played afc Tenui j on Saturday afternoon Jast between Tenui and Carswells, and resulted in i a win for the home learn by 6 points to nil, writes a correspondent, after one of tfte most stubbornly contested games seen here for a long time. Tenui winning the toss had all tie best of the first spell, in which they scored on two occasions From a line out in the visitors twenty-five McGillicuddy got possession of the Pall and promptly skirted a dribbling rush and together with Possum and carried play to the visitors line where Possum was grassed. Here McGiilicuddv snapped up the leather and made a clash for the line, but he too went under. He, however, smartly pas- , seel to Possum, who dashed over and scored first bioud for Tenui. No goal resulted. Some give and take play followed, but from a scrum in midfield the Tenui backs got to work and Bert Schofield got over near the corner. W. Collerton failed with the kick from a difficult angle. after half-time sounded, with the score Tenui 6, Carswell nil. Upon resuming Carswells attacked and penned their opponents, who were several times forced down. On one occasion Carswells nearly Rcured. Tenui forwards now got to work again and confining the ball as, much is possible they shifted the scene of play to the centre, where W. Cellerton was conspicuous for some strong forward work, as waa also McGillicuddy, the heavy going being to their liking. Tenui pack were now palying well to i a man. The fine line kicking of A. Schofield at half back and E. Schofield at three-quarters was quite a feature of the game. Isnui tried to increase the score but the defence of the visitors was sound. Mr Richard I Anderson made a capable referee. Harrington and Wilson among the backs doing sterling work for CardI wells. No side sounded with Tenui ! winners of the cup for this year For Tenui all played a sterling game. For Carswells Hyde, Wilson, and Harrington in the backs ai.d J. Greenbank, Leach and Gordon Lang among the forwards were the most conspicuous. The visitors were driven to Tenui by Mr Rubert Morrison, of BJairlogie, in his handsome four in hand. Tenui have played nine games this season, winning 6, drawing 2, and losing one. They won the cup by 1J points. Dr Gunn, the popular vice president of the Tenui football Club has kindly given his services free to members of the dub, who were injured during the season. The Foresters versus All Corners football match will be played on Tenui football ground on the 4th September next. A dance is to be given subsequently in the Tenui hall in aid of the Foresters' lodge.
