Eighteen new members were elected, and the membership of the Society is now between 250 and 300 members, which speaks volumes for the secretary, who has been very successful in his canvassing. A feature of the programme submitted is the large number of horse events. Perry's Biorama Company, which is well-known in connection with the Salvation Army, is to give a performance in Pahiatua on Tuesday next. Tne usual meeting of Court Pahiatua, A.0.F., was held last evening. Two new members were proposed. The Woodville Foresters wrote stating they were prepared to play a football match against the local Lodge at Pahatua on the ISth inst, but as this is the day fixed for the anniversary social, tna Lodge decided it could not play on that date, as the members were required to help in preparing the hall for the evening. The Pahiatua Gun Club's first shoot; for the mounted stags head resulted a* follows -.-Hughes 18 birds out of 21, first; C. Sidjy, 16 birds, second; Sherwood and Pitts v tied for third pace with 15 birds each. The trophy has to be won twice in succession or three times at intervas. A serious accident happened at Konini to-day to a boy named Stone, a son of Mrs George Stone, buttermaker. The boy picked up a detonator in a paddock and started to convert the same into a whiste. The detonator expluded, blowing off some of the fingers of both hands, and also injuring the boy's face. The boy was taken to the Pahiatua Hospital. The Woodville football team defeated Pahiatua Wednesday team by six points to nil at Woodville to-day. The following telegram was received from Dannevirke in reference to the Napic'r'Dannevirke Sub-union football match to-day :-"The game ended in a draw—three points all. One player in each team was ordered off the field." Rakanui tootballera travelled to Pongaroa on Saturday and met the latter team on the Recreation Ground. Owing to. the recent heavy rain the ground was very soft, and large pools covered the field of play. They game was chiefly a torward one, and was won by Pongaroa by thre« points to nil—a try scored by Hutcbings, Whittaker failing to convert. Whittaker kicked a line goal from a tree kick which was disallowed owing to & Pongaroa player being in front of the ball when kicked. For the visitors McKenzie did good work in the forward, and the backs all played well. Of the local forwards P. Waddle was perhaps the best, and Stephenson in the backs.
