(Prom Our Resident Reporter). Wedneaday. The Magistrate's Court held a sitting here yesterday before Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., James Dalton was fined £l, or in default seven | days imprisonment for procuring j liquor while a prohibition order i was in tome against him, and on a second charge of being drunk and disorderly was fined £3 and costs 7. In the defended case of A. Harbroe v. A. Udy, claim £4 5a for drink supplied and meals, plaintiff was nonsuited on the ground that the claim was too vapue. An adjournment until next CoUrt day was made in the case of the Wairarapa Brick and Tile Company v. Levien, Shallcross and Co., a claim for goods supplied to A. W. Jones on the understanding that they would be cnarged to defendants. Judgment went for defendant by default in the case of A. W. Jones v. Carterton Borough Council, a claim of £196 being balance of amount claimed to be due to [ him for work on the street asphalting
contract I A concert in aid of the funds of St. Mary's Church takes place here on August 24th. Mr D. M'Auley has resigned the position of curetaker of the Recreation Grounds at Petone, in order to follow farming pursuits on the Carrington Settlement. Prior to leaving Petone, Mr M'Auley received a presentation from the Inglesida Committee. Mr and Mrs G. W. Deller, writing from Scotland, state that they are enjoying a pleasant trip. I'he news of Mr W. C. Buchanan's return as WairaraDa representative | I on the Wellintgon Education Board, was received here with a good deal of satisfaction. The result was not unexpected here, as Mr Buchanan has f.ir ajconsiderable period done faithful work on the Board. "What beautiful weather," was a I remark freely heard as one passed along High Street at nine o'clock this morning, when the sun was looming fortn in its glory. Ac one this afternoon there was a cold breeze, with rain falling, and the town was silent as to the weather conditions. Last evening the pupils of Mr W. J. Bannin's dancing assembly celebrated the wind-up with a pinafore social. There was a large attendance from all over the district, and the floor being in good order made dancing a pleasure. The hall was nicely decorated. Music was supplied by Miss Berril (piano) and Mr R. Crawley (cornet), while extras were played by Mesdames Bannin, Beard, and Misses Wilde and Brown.
