MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday. Present-Crs W. J. Welch, D. W. Forman, J. Morris, H. 0. Toogood, J. Colqnhoun, A. Murray, J. Miller, and C. C. Kebbell. Mr F. Donovan wrote complaining that the use of the Ruamahanga river right-of-way nad been obstructed by Mr S. Connell with rails and wire. After consulting the engineer, the Council decided to ask Mr Connell to remove the obstructions, failing which proceedings would be taken. Messrs Gawith and Logan forwarded a draft agreement between settlers on Fernridge for proposed Upper Fernridge water supply.— It was decided to inform the promoters tnat a plan must be deposited with the Council, and other formalities complied with before action could be taken by the Council.
Mr R. Riddiford wrote suggesting to the Council to procure a straight -out Government grant of £75 for a road from Riversdale mail gate to the beach, the Council to subsidise the work with £25.
On the motion of Cr Toogood, it was decided to apply to the Government for a loan on the terms suggested in the letter, and to ask Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., to support the appplication, Mr J. Brown and others, wrote drawing attention to the urgency for repairing the road by his property. Mr Brown waited upon th« Council in support of the letter, explaining the nature of the work re quired to be done. The matter was left to the riding representative, Cr Morris, and the
Engineer. The Treasury notified that £l5O had been remitted to the Councilor metalling the Black Creek read, and that the £I,OOO loan for AlfreJtonWeber ro*»d was now available. Mr W. H. Cruickshank wrote asking the Council to construct two culverts and a road to his property at Lansdowne.—Referred to the Engineer. The Secretary of the Masterton Technical School, Mr N ,D. Bunting, wrote, thanking the Council for its assistance towards the work of the school.
Mr J. Robieson wrote drawing attention to a dangerous state of a bridge on his road. This matter was referred to the engineer for a report. Mr W. Mowbray wrote drawing attention to the delay in placing a culvert over the water race on his
property. The Chief Inspector of Stock forwarded a slaughter license for Mr W. J. Blake. Mrs J. Caemron wrote to state that her fences on the Opaki Water-race line had not been left in good repair by the contractor. — Attended to, Mr fl. G. Williams wrote offering to confer with the County chairman re sile for reservoir tor the Lansdowne watfr supply.
Thfc Sanitary Inspector reported himself to be attending to cases of scarlet fever at Bideford. The Featherston County Council wrote asking for a contribution towards the upkeep of Rirnutaka Road.~lhe Finance Committee reported against the County recognising any liability in this connection. The Finance Committee met in the morning, The treasurer reported:—General Fund account, dr., £3,741 17s 2d; Local Bodies Loan Account, cr., £5,297 15s 6d; Accounts, credit balance, £1,197 15s lid. The receipts since July 13th totalled £249 6s 6d; (rates, £69 7s 4d, toils, £2O; Black Creek Road Loan, £150.) Accounts totalling £1,295 6s lOd were passed
for payment. Cr Miller said he was desirous of seeing the ford at the Taueru river on the Mangarei Road bridged assoon as possible, and he thought the Council should accelerate the building of the bridge in connection with the Mangarei Road loan to allow of the timber being taken out while the woo' was coming in. It was unanimously resolved to anticipate the loan to the extent necessary to get the timber on the ground before next winter.
