HIGH COMMISSIONERS' CABLE. #

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner dated London, August 7th:— There is a dull sale for all qualities of mutton except prime light weight, which is very scarce. Stocks of mutton on hand are heavy. North Island and River Plate mutton are selling at the Bame price. There is litMe chance of any advance. Canterbury is quoted at 2£d per lb, and North Island 2£d. The lamb market is very weak, although there is a good demand for prime quality. Low prices for lamb are increasing the output. Canterbury is quoted at 3|d per lb ; North Island, at 3Jd per lb. The beef market is firmer and there is a better demand. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3|d, and fores at 2|d per lb. The butter market is Jquiet, bat firm for best quality. New Zealand butter, 108s per cwt. (nominal); Danish, 113s; Siberian, 100s. The cheese market is quiet, but steady, and there is a general and active demand for New Zealand at 60s.

The hemp market remains firm on account of offerings being very small from New Zealand. New Zealand good fair grade on spot per ton, £25 (nominal); New Zealand fair grade, on spot, per ton, £24 (nominal). Fair current Manila on spot, per ton, £24 10s; July-Septem-ber shipments, New Zealand good fair, per ton, £24 10s; New Zealand fair grade, per ton, £23 10s; fair current Manila, £24 per ton. Manila output, 25,000 bales. The wool niarkt has advanced. Kauri Gum.—-Ordinary fair to three-quarter scraped, 165 a; fair half scraped, 105s; fair half to threequarter scraped, 90s; pickings, common to good, 40s; bush fair to gpod pale and amber, scraped, 140s.
