CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. Two local residents observed a strange light of unusual brilliance in ihe heavens, at about 10 o'clock, last light. The light was described as being like an ordinary gaslight, with ] cone-shaped arrangement attached to it. The light was moving swiftly in an easterly direction and gradually disappeared. The light was also seen by a resident of Ahiruhe at about the 3arne place, which confirms the statemen made by the Carterton residents. Eggs are now being retailed in Carterton at Is 3d per dozen. The Masterton Salvation Army Band travelled to Carterton, last evening, and gave a musical enertainment in the local Barracks, before a eair audience, the concert taking th form of a welcome'home to Capain Adams and his wife. The last of the series of socials organised by the members of the Carterton Methodist Church Choir, wad held in the Schoolroom last evening. There was a large gathering of Church pe-.ple and friends and the Rev. W. J. Elliott occupied the chair. An excellent programme was provided by the choir, and after the programme had been gone through, the remainder of the evening wad spent in social intercourse, games, etc. At a suitable interval in the proceedings the Chairman welcomed Mr Rupert Crawley, the newly-ap-pointed choirmaster. Mr Crawley briefly replied to the welco?ne given to him.
