By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 5. At the Police Court, Daniel Ryan, butcher, was fined £2 and costs for having cruelly ill-treated five pigs by splitting their ears. Mr Cutten, S.M , said 45 butchers.had sent pigs to the abattoirs, and defendant was the only one who had found it necessary to adopt earsplitting as a method of identification. He was of opinion that defendant bad acted cruelly, though perhaps unintentionally.
