TENUI NOTES.
(From a Correspondent.) A cup match was played at rlotnewood on Saturday last between Tenui and Homewood teams an resulted in the defeat of Tenui for tne first time this season by eight points to nil, after a hard-fought game. Upon the arrival of the Tenui team at Homewood they were heartily welcomed by the natives who attended in large numbers to witness the match. Homewood won the toss. The ground was in capital order and properly marked out A strong wind was blowing across the ground against Tenui in the first half, in which there was no score. Both sides were evenly, matched and showing great combination. In the second spell from the kick off by Kara (captain) and fast following up this player scored first blood for Homewood after a fine piece of play. Jackson failed with the kick at goal. From the kick out Tenui attacked strongly and penned Homewood for some considerable time, but the fine play of the home backs soon removed the scene of piay. Jackson taking the ball well and following up a high kick smothered the visitors and scored a beautiful try right under the goal posts. Taking the kick himself he kicked a goal Homewood 8 points, Tenui nil. Some give and take play followed in which both sides were responsible for some good work and "no side" sounded with play in the home team's twenty-five. For Homewood, Jackson, Ellers, [ Sara, Tohe, W. Rummer, Douglas and Peru played sterling games, and for Tenui, W. Collerton, J. Cameron, S. Schofield, J. Collerton and E. Schofield were the pick. E. SchofielJ at three-quarters played the safest game on the ground and saved his side several tiT.es. Mr Ross made a capable refeiee. After the match Ihe Homewood club entertained the visitors at din ner in their ball, and also gave a dance in their honour. During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs Brooks, Miss Carrol, and Peter Pauapa, ar.d a recitation by Mr E. Collerton, which were much appreciated. The music: was supplied by Messrs Page (piano) and H. McGiilicucidy (aceordeon). Mr Rod. Mcßae save several step dances during the evening. The captain of the Tenui team at the conclusion of the function thankea the Homewood club for the handsome manner in which his team had been entertained and hoped that when the Homewcod team paid a return visit to Tenui they would be able to return the compliment. He called for three hearty cneers for Homewood, the first team to defeat them. These were heartily given. The Tenui team were the guests of Messrs 'latham (Homewood station) and the Brothers Earl, Joe and Rne Paker, until Sunday afternoon, when they returned to Tenui being loud .in their praise of the splendid manner in which the Homewood people had entertained them. Next Saturday Tenui meet Carswells at Tenui. The following is the Tenui team - —Full back. D. Donoghou; three-quarter, E. Scho field, Albert Hcskings, and Ted Collerton; five-eighths, J. Collerton; half, A. Schofield; wings forward, J as. Wingate, Bert Schofield; for wards, S. Schofield (captaint, Bethune, J. Cameron. Fletcher, W. Collerton, M. Sharp, and H. McGillicuddy. All players are requested to be ready at 3 o'clock sharp. MiRichard Anderson will referee.
