MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

STBWARDS' REPORT.. The following is the annual report of t the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club: —Your Stewards beg to lay before you the annual report and balance sheet for the year ended June 30th, 1909. As will be seen by the annexed balance sheet, the past year has not been a financial success. At the Spring meeting the stakes were increased by £lO5, but as this did not show any appreciable difference in nominatians received, it was considered advisable to adopt the scale offered at the previous Autumn meeting. The deficiency is mainly owing to the decreass in the amount of money invested on the Totalisator through competition with the bookmakers. The refusal to grant a •license to sell liquor un the course at the last meeting also bad a serious effect on the Club's revenue. The racing and training tracks have both been ton-dressed during" the past year, and are in capital order, 1 oiainly owing to the care and attention given by the Custodian H. Wehh. Your Stewards were intending to recommend to the incoming officials the necessity of erecting another grandstand and further accommodation for the horses, and trainers at the Racecourse, but owing to the general depression existing and the preeent state of the Club's finances they hardly deem it advisable to suggest the Club incurring any heavy expenditure for the com - ing season. The annual meeting will be held in the Exchange Building on Thursday, August 12th, at 2.30 p.m., when the members will be called upon to elect the usual officials for the year.
