MADRID, July 31. Four hundred persons have been killed and 1,100 injured in the streets in Barcelona,

Nine thousand arme.i revolutionaries have formed a committee for public safety. The Minister of the Interior states that the revolt in Barcelona is the most serious since the Pans Commune. The revolutionaries have taken the opportunity of the departure of troops to carry out long prepared plans. He claims that the Government is now master of xhe situation.

Harrowing scenes occurred at Malaga, where the Quay is littered with wounded soldiers.

Kine Alfonso is anxious to proceed to Melilla, but will remain in Madrid as long as circumstances require. Hundreds of Spanish deserters have entered France, some intending to embark to America. It is officially announced that the cavalry at Barcelona drove the bulk of the rioters into the main thoroughfares, the artillery inflicting heavy loss. The survivors surrendered. There now remain only a few bands ir. the neighbouring villages. Two convents have been burnt at Casa de la Selva, near Barcelona. The townsmen imprisoned the civil guards in th* barracks. Queen Ena and the Dowager Queen Christina have gone to Bayonne, on the north coast of Spain, whence their departure will depend upon the course of events.

It is stated that they have made preparations for every contingency. Six battalions of chasseurs have embarked at Algaciras for Melilla. General Marina demands an army of seventy-five thousand men.

The Centa tribesmen are preparing to assist the Moors at Melilla. Native reporjts state that the Moors lost a hundred killed on Tuesday, and a proportionate number of wounied.
