FAT STOCK SALES FOR MASTERTON.

BRIEFLY DISCUSSED BY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. COMMITTEE SET UP TO INVESTIGATE. The fat stock sale proposal wasdiscussed by the annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association, on Saturday, when Mr D McGregor, junr., moved that a committee be set up to obtain details as to proposed sales. The mover said there had been talk about the proposal for some time past, though it had been, some had said that it would be little use establishing such sales, as big buyers would come along and crowd others out. This might be so if previous such sales were followed. But this would not be so lfjjthe sales were run on the lines of big South Island yards, and extra choice small parcels were submitted by the farmers of the district. He believed better sales and better prices would result.. Mr H. Morrison seconded the motion stating that the avantageous position of the new saleyards would be a great factor in popularising the sales. Mr W. Perry also supported the motion. He said that some years ago Adctington was the only place to hold such sales in the Dominion,, while now Dunedin, Waipukuraa and even Johnsonville, held verysuccessful sales. Wellington smaller buyers could come to Masterton, and this would help materially toforward the sales.]!

Mr C. E. Daniel! thought the committee might also include in its

investigations a sugge&tion that perhaps a cold storage depot at the Masterton Abattoirs would prove an. incentive to small buyers, who might find such a depot a great conveni-

ence. Mr J. C. McKillop supported themotion, considering that in view of: the depressed market it might mean* a considerable improvement in local/ prices

Mr D. McGregor strongly supported the motion, stating that he believed that the first-class stock of the district should be submitted to open*

competition, and not be disposed of.' privately. He even advocated a general market for all farmers' produce,, and on that account he supported m the motion, as it pointed to such a. termination Mr J. B, McKenzie supported the motion, and said that a weighbridge for cattle at the yards would also bea great advantage.

The motion was carried unanimously, and the following committee was set up:—Messrs G. C. Sum merell, R. Perry, H ; Morrison, D. McGregor, E Harper, A. J. Percy, A. G. Pilmer.
