MASTERTON BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. I There was a good attendance of membeis at the annual meeting of the Masterton Bowling .Club on Thursday evening The chair was occupied by the] Acting President, Mr F. DupreThe report and balance-sheet, which have already been published were read and adopted. The election of officers and Committees resulted as follows:—President, Mr E. J. Rose: Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs R. Rigg and S. Inder; Treasurer, Mr J. Hunter; Secretary, Mn'O. Pragnell; General Committee, Messrs J. C. Ewington, J. Cochrane, A. Haughey, A. Henderson and J. K. Blinkhorne; Match Committee, Messrs J. Cochrane, C. W. Perry and A. Henderson; Auditor, Mr F. Dupre; Delegate to the Northern Bowling Association, Mr F. Grady. On the motion of Mr 0. Pragnell the following resolution was carried: —"That the Match Committee, in additon to the selection of teams, have the sole management of matters in connection with the arrival and reception of visiting bowlers, the catering for the entertaining of visiting bowjers and the departure of Masterton bowlers to play at other places." It was lesolved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr McEwen foi a weed exterminator, presented to the Club, which had proved exceedingly useful.
Mr Imier moved a hearty vote of thanks to the outgoing Committee, and referred in eulogistic terms to their services. Taking into consideration the financial stringency that had obtained during the past twelve months, he was of the opinion that they had done remarkably well.
Mr Haughey seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.
Mr Pragnell moved, and Mr Townsend seconded, that all the names on the that are in arrears with their payments one month after the bowling season has commenced be erased or otherwise dealt with. An amendment moved by Mr Dupre that the whole matter be left in the hands ot the incoming Committee to deal with was carried A circular was reeived from the Northern Bowling Association, stating that it had been decided to hold the 1910 tournament in Wellington on January 10th, and that the following notices of motion were given at a meeting of the Council, to be laid before the affiliated Clubs for their decision:—(l) That at the tournament tu be held in Wellington under the auspices of the Association, Clubs may eWr one or more teams as (hey thick fit; <!'2) that the present two-rink system be abolished,,arifl in lieu thereof the number of entries be unlimited; (3) that there be no alteration in the present system <f play at the coming tournament, and that prior to the tournament ali Clubs be circularised to the effect that it is suggested an alteration in the rink play be made on the lines of rink play instead of Club play, and that it is proposed to fully discuss the question at a special mass meeting of all the bowlers present at the tournament.—lt was resolved, ony the motion of Mr Ewington, seconded by Mr Hunter, that their delegate in Wellington be instructed to support the first clause. Mr Rose then presented the following medals: Championship Single?, Mr Blinkhorne, gold medal, presented by Mr Hunter; runner-up, Mr Cameron medal, presented by Mr Dupre; Handicap Singles, Mr Cresswell. medal, presented by Mr E. Richards; runner up, Mr Hollings, medal, presented by Mr Grady. The announcement was made that Messrs Cresswell and H. Perry had promised medals for the ensuing year.
Mr Ewington proposed Mr C. H. Smith as a member of the Club. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mesprs Varnham and Rose for providing office accorrmodation during the past twelve months, the caretaker and the Press.
