The trial of a police inspector and a detective sergeant is proceeding at Chicago. The detective is alleged to have received £I,BOO Jsterling in a few months'from unfortunate women, which was mostly distributed among higher officials. The police inspector is charged with having received £350 in a single payment. It in estimated that; gamblers, opium dealers, and others distribute between £60,000 and £140,000 sterling annually within two police districts.
