ANNUAL RE-UNION.

WAIRARAPA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. The annual re--union of the Waira- i rapa Hockey Association was held at the Marquis of Normar.by Hotel, ! Carterton, last evening, when about | sixty persons attended the function, j which was of a most enjoyable j character. The President (Mr A. C. j Major) occupied the chair. '>. he com- i petition for the Major Cup (Senior), : Booth Cup (Junior), the Five-«side Tournament (Senior), and Bannin Banner (Junior) having been completed, the occasion was made one for ! the presentation of the trophies men- i tioned. ' The Chairman, in his opening remarks, stated that the gathering wa3 the fifth ot the kind held by the Association, and he trusted the Association would hold many more. : (Applause). j The toast of "The King," proposed ; by the Chaiimin, was duly honoured, j Mr G. Cullen proposed the toast of j "The Wairarapa Hockey Associ- I lation." In doing so Mr Cullen re- j ferred to the great strides made by i hockey in the Wairarapa, during the past few years, and said that it reflected most creditably upon the administration of the Association that under that body's fostering carp the game had almost superseded j even the graat game of football. i The toast, which was coupled with the name of the President, was enthusiastically honoured. The President, in reply, said he was proud to have been connected with the fine body of players who j constituted the As?ociation. Since he was elected to \he important office he | how "heid he had beeri pleased lo CO- j ■ serve how excellently the member-: , of the Association worked together, , and how the game had progressed. The Association had endeavoured to control the game in a manner to give satisfaction to all teams con- : cemed, and he believed the Association had been successful in this. (Hear! Hear!) The presentation of trohies was • then made. The Carterton team winners of the Major Cup, werj. ->nded the trophy, through their J. Fisher. The donor heartily congratulated the team on its great achieve- ' ment in winning the Cup three ; times in succession and fur times at intervals. (Cheers). Captain ] , Fisher briefly thanked the Pnsidentj for his congratulatory remarks. I Mr W. Howard Booth handed his j cup to Captain W. Hornblow (Knox ( Juniors). The donor said that he was ( greatly impressed with the nceessity for encouraging junior teams in any game, and he felt that in giving a trophy for the Junior competition he was doing the game as great a ser- . vice as if he had assisted instead the j Senior members. (Applause). Captain Hornblow duly acknowledged the trophy. The Chairman stated that the Major Badges (Carterton Senior winners), and the Bannin Banner (W.F.C.A. Junior winners) and the Major Badges for the Five-Aside Tournament were not ready for presentation, but he called for three hearty cheers for the winners. These were cordialiy given. Mr A. C. Pragnell proposed the toast of "The Donors of Trophies." In doing so Mr Pragnell said that while hockey in Wairarapa had such supporters behind it as Messrs Booth, Bannin and. Major it must hold a high position in games. He hoped these gentlemen would reap the deserved reward for their kind assistance by seeinf the Association attain to the highest position possible.

(Loud applause). Messrs Booth, Bannin and the Chairman duly repponded. "The Winners of Trophies" was a toast proposed by Mr J. O'Meara, response being made by the re-1 spective Captains, Messrs J. Fisher, W. Hornblow, and W. Parker. Mr J. Fisher proposed the toast of "The Referees," to which Messrs 0. Meara, Carley and Goodman responded. "Our Host," a toast enthusiastically honoured, was proposed by Mr Booth, special praise being bestowed on Mr and Mrs HaUey for the fine spread provided. During the evening songß and other musical and vocal items were given by various contributors, a most pleasant evening concluding with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
