PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. The fortnightly meeting of Court Pahiatup, A.0.F.. was held last evening, Bio. Bain, C.R., presiding. Two new members were initiated a:.d two proposed for membership. It was decided to hold an anniversary social on August 25th, and a btrong committee was formed to malce all arrangements for the social. After the usual routine business had been transacted a pleasant evening was spent at card playing. When responding to tho toast of the new Farmers' Freezing Company recently formed, Captain Whyte, in the course of his remarks, stated that a meeting was to be held shortly regarding the starting of Farmers' Co operative stores in Pahiatua. Very few dances have been held in Pflhiatun so far this season, the vigorating pastime of skating taking its place, and both rinks are doing well. Last evening, at the Drill Hall, the Grand March was done twice, many of the performers having not previously been on skates until this season. The Hunt Club's Steeplechase meeting, to be liekij on August 4lh, is now tie sener.il topic . f conversation. Many willing hands have to-day been busy preparing the Drill Hall for the Catholic social, which is being held this evening. I understand that the Catholic social at Hamua will be held about September Jst. The hockey match played at Konini, this afternoon, between the Konini and Kotoroa Ladies' Hockey Clubs, resulted in a win for the home team by one goal to nil. The rain that fell hist evening made the ground very heavy, and was against a good exhibition of hockey. GOLF, The match between the Manawatu and Pahiatua Clubs, played on the local links, to-day, resulted as follows (the Manawatu players being mentioned first in each instance) •. W. Strang beat J. 0. Lilley, H. Cooper baat H. McSherry, S. Jounneaux lost to J. G Swainson, H. Young beat H M. B. Marshall, Stewart halved with C. J. Norton, C. Adams beat W. J. Collins. Manawatu thu3 won by 5 games to 1, one same being halved The visitors were entertained to luncheon and afternoon tea by the local Club. "Real bargains in boots for men," is the subject; of an advertisement from Mr J. K. Carpenter, which appears in another co'umn of this page.
