(From Our Resident Reporter). CARTERTON, July 28. Meat comes down in price here after August, the reductions being from a Id to l£d par lb, which will be much appreciated by families. The Challenge Silver Cup, the gift of the ladies of the district, to the Wairarapa P. awd A. Society, for the best lady's hack, is attracting a good deal of attention ja the window of a local jewelier. The Home Mission meeting last evening in the Methodist Church, was well attended, an interesting discourse being given by the Rev. T. G. Brooke, at the close of which he received a vote of thanks. 1

The total amount raised for tha Henderson benefit was £4O 103. The social result was £l4 13s 3d, againet which there were expenses amounting to £1 15s fid. The balance was made up by public subscription amounting to £27 12s lid. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last even-

ing, presided over by His Worship the Mayor. The general account was reported in debt £571 18s Bd, and

accounts amounting to £617 6s 4d were passed for settlement The report of the Engineer was read and adopted. It was resolved to meet en Monday evening to discuss the matter of prohibiting cattle driving through the main street. The application from Mr W. Meyrick to hava his property in Tyne street connected with the sewer was granted. The question of procuring a horse and dray for Borough work was left to the Works Committee to report at next meeting. Councillor Caliisttr's resignation as a member of the Domain Committee was accepted. The Engineer was empowered to have the work of extending the kerbing and channelling in High street southwards to Clifton Avenue, a distance of 22 chains, carried out. The

Gas Committee reported that 3(3 OOOfeet of gas had been manufactured during the month, of which the consumers had used 222 800 feet. The offer of Mr M. Jones, of 10s, for wood on the Richmond gravel pit site was accepted. It was resolved to extend the Park road path another 25 chains. The Works Committee and Cr Rathbone were empowered to arrange for the completion of Seddon street prior to the | Council taking over the road.
