(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. A meeting of the local Lodge of tne Independent Order of Rechabites was held last evening, C.R. Bro. F. E. Tylsr presiding. One brother was declared off, and one on the sick fund. The report of the United Friendly Societies' Council was read, and in view that part of the funds of the Council are being used to provide a trophy for card tournaments, it was resolved to withdraw from membership. Or E. W. Smyth was appointed an additional medical officer of the Lodge. ThejSouth Wairarapa Poultry Society have applied to the North Island Poultry Association for the championships of Black and Red Game, Bantams, White Leg hums. Silver or White Wyandottes, (the former for preference) for their show next year. Last evening the of Boy Scouts marched to Dalefield and gave a Camp Fire Entertainment, returning home shortly before ten o'clock. A youth named Hawke, of Parkvale, is at present incapacitated from work through a poisoned hand sustained in a very simple manner. A week or so ago he had a common sore upon the hand, which he accidentally knocked, breaking the skin. In working around a fireplace some red ochre got in the wound, with the above result Dr Smyth is attending th.3 injury, which is making a rapid recovery. A case of diphtheria has been reported here. Messrs Maunsell and Hart, eolicitors, gave notice of appeal yesterday and lodged security in the case of Jury v. Hodge. The appeal is that the judgment of the Magistrate is erroneous in law, and that the lessee remains liable under bis lease, notwithstanding an assignment. The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held last evening, Bro. E. Wallis, A.D., presiding. Two brothers were declared off, and one on the sick fund. The annual report of the Friendly Societies' Council was read, and Bro. C. Reid and J. M. Nicholls were elected delegates for ensuing periud. Bro. W. W. Mansfield was elected auditor in place of Bro W- Toomath, ! who has left the district. Receipts i for evening amounted to £7 6s 2J, ! and disbursements £8 10s. Quartermaster-Sergeant A. S. Judd and Private N. Martin, of the Rifle Volunteers, have erected a system of telegraphy, on field service plans, between their respective homas, and purpose practising the Morse codj of telegraphy on proper instruments. The transmission of messages by flag signallers is worked upon the basis of Morse code.
