The weather was splendid this .afternoon for the final run of the Woodlands Hunt Club, which took place over Mr T. Mexted's property at Mangatainoka. Only about ten followed the hounds, but many were present who no doubt were saving their horses for the Steeplechase Mealing. There was also a large attendance of ladies. Several of the remits caused much discussion amongst those present. The one regarding'the rate of interest on advances to settlers was not fully discussed at the Conference, and Mr Brechin moved, "that the meeting place on record, its regret that the time of the Conference did not allow of a full discussion on the remit from the Pahiatua Branch, viz, that the Branch considers a mistake has been made in the past in fixing the maximum instead of the minimum rate of interest on advances to settlers.' 1 The motion was carried. A good deal of discussion ensued on the proposed raising of fire insurance premiums by the various companies, and it was decided to obtain further information regarding the working of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance and encourage the farmers to ensure in that office. One memmber stated that many farmers were under the impression that cement was carried free on the railway, and he would like it to be known that this was not the case. Mr Quirke brought up the matter of experimenting with manures and it was decided to go into this subject, as was being done in other districts. The same speaker also stated he would like 'to see a scheme initiated at some of the schools for milk and cream testing, and and suggested that prizes be offered in this respect, at the first agricultural show i'i Pahiatua.
