NOTES ON THE RACING.
(By "Zetland"). St. Bill continued his victorious career and won the Onslow Handicap in a field of eight, Alex. Hall had the St. Clement's gelding in splendid condition, and his three wins out of that number of starts showed consistency. King's Prize was looked upon as the most likely winner of the Crofton Handicap, but victory went to an outsider, Llanwern, whose racing on the first and second days had im-* proved him considerably. Splash, who ran second also showed improvement, and if she trains on should pay her way in the spring. Public form was again repeated in the Corunna Hurdles, for Waione, who had run two seconds on the previous'days, scored from six others. Te Arai, winner of the Wellington Steeplechase, was made favourite for the July Steeplechase, of 21 miles. Holding a good position throughout he went to the front, when called upon, and won in good style from Irish and Nadador. Th public selected Merrie Zealand as a probable winner of the Winter Oats, and well ridden by H. Cairns, the Merrie England gelding scored from Gaelic and Coronetted. Those who backed Mr J. Cress" Gaelic weie rewarded with a fine price. The horse ran a game race, and beat several good performers, including Sir Frisco, Wimmera,' Iranui, Coronetted and Diamond Star. Corazon was looked upon as a good thing for the Final Hurdles,, but the finish was between Rendrock and Belario; the latter winning by a. narrow margin. The meeting was brought to "a close with the Kia Ora Handicap. Miscast, who had been purchased during th week from theJHan. J. D. Ormond, by Mr R. W. Paiterson, gained the verdict from Timothy and Rose Herald, who finished nearly together.
