ELECTION OF A BOROUGH COUNCILLOR.

MR W. MORRIS RETURNED. ! The weather was even worse yesterday for the election of a Borough Councillor to fill the vacancy caused by Cr Yarr's resignation than it was on the occasion of the recent poll for the rajected street loan. In consequence a small percentage of votes was recorded, oply 551 electors exercising their privileges out ol nearly 2,600 on the roll. Mr W. Morris was returned over his opponen, Mr E. Feist 147 56 203 Informal 1 1 2 ' Majority for Mr Morris 143 In spite of drenching rain a small , muster of interested voters congreI gated round the Drill Hall door to hear the result, which was received with as much enthusiasm as a wet crowd of a dozen or so could muster. Mr Morris, in returning thanks, said he was gratified very much to find that the Borough electors had confidence in him as a representative on the Council. "My party left me in the lurch at last general election of Councillors," said Cr Morris, "and I was then suffering from a severe illness. To day, however, I am very much alive, and I have overtaken them." (Laughter). Continuing, the successful candidate said he would endeavour tc serve the Borough to the best of his ability, as he had done in the past. (Applause). Mr Feist said he could not say that he was not disappointed at the result. However, when he saw the way the vutera were coming to the poll he predicted that his opponenl would be returned.
