HOW' THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED.
COLLISION WITH A STEAMER.
Received July 16, 9.20' a.m. LONDON, July 15.
The submarines Gil nad 017-came into collision with a passing steamer;, the first-named sinking. Lieutenants Brodie and Watkinswere rescued, buttwelve of''the crew were drowned: The Cl7is-still> afloat; The submarines were proceeding to the Thames-to take part in the approaching naval demonstration. Received July 16, 9:10 p<m. July 16. The steamer Eddystone,. bound for Hull, in a dense fog off the Norfolk coast, ran among the submarines at midnight, colliding with Cll. Simultaneously Cl 6 and Cl 7 collided, while endeavouring to avoid the Eddystone. Cl 7 was badly damaged. Sixteen lives were lost as the result of the accident.
