SHEEP RETURNS.

To-night's Gazette gives the approximate number of sheep in the Dominion on April 30th last as follows : Auckland District, 1,053,624, increase over previous year 129,817. Napier an.l Gisborue, 5,578,074, increase 131,313. Wellington and West Coast, 5,454,333, increase 192,700. Marlborough and Nelson, 1,223,816, increase 31,819. « Canterbury and Kaikoura, 5,455,914 increase 148,998. Otago, 4,607,459, increase 289,520. Total, 23,373,220, increase 924,167. The quantity of mutton and lamb exported during the year ended April 30th last was as follows: — Mutton, 1,899,446 carcases, increase over previous twelve months, 78,040 carcases; legs and pieces 41,681 cwt., increase 5,918 cwt.; lamb, 2,910,358 carcases, increase 83,921

carcases.
