CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday.

This morning Messrs C. R. P. Armstrong, R. J. Chapman, and H. J. E. Meyrick despatched poultry exhibits to the Hastings Show. The breeds represented were Partridge and White Leghorns, Silver Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons and Pekin djcks. Clem Cave, an ex-Cartertonian, and now resident of Eltham, is at present on a visit to his relatives

here. It is some six years ago since Mr Cave was previously in Carter ton, and he naturally sees a difference in the town.

An opening social is to be held by ►be recently formed St. Mark's Church Young Women's Bible Class about the end of the month. July 29th i 3 mentioned as the probable date.

Mr Rupert Crawley has been appointed choirmaster at the local Methodist Church in succession to Mr Goldsmith, who resigned on account of leaving the district. Mr D. T. King, who has been carrying out the duties since Mr Goldsmith's resignation took effect, has been accorded the cordial thanks of the trustees

Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., met last evening, P.C.R. Bro. W. Fisher presidng. An invitation was accepted from Court Loyal Enterprise, Mastertou, to a card tournament on July 30th. Bro. A. J. Fisher was installed C. R., and he installed the suboriinate officers into their respective offices. Receipts for the meeting amounted to £22 Is lOd, and disbursements £36 3s 4d.

A heavy frost has coated the ground here during the past two morninars. ssv3n degrees of frast bs-' ing registered last night. Last evening Mr and Mrs H. McFarlane, and family, were entertained at a farewell social by the congregation of St. Andrews' Church, and presented with a purse of 25 sovereigns. Several speakers alluded to the excellent and faithful work rendered by Mr ani Mm McFarlane, in and out of church circles, and their approaching departure from the district was very much regretted. This morning the fast goods train due here at 9.17 o'clock was delayed'over an hour at Woodside, through the engine breaking down."
