Old-age pensioneis applying to th 3 Borough Council for work, on account of the slackness of employment have been refused, because they cannot be expected to do a fair day's labour. The Mayor explains that under the general labourers' award the council is compelled to pay Is per hour, and applicants admit they are not worth it. The Mayor thinks the Government should introduce legislation exempting old-age pensioners from all awards as a part solution of the difficulty.
