DRIVERS' AND SHEPHERD' INDUSTRIAL UNION.

Some 180 farmers and employers in Hawke's Bay have received notice of the demands of the Drovers and Shepherds' Industrial Union. The demands, which are expected to before the Conciliation Commissioner on the 12th instant, at Napier, are as follows:—1. drovers and shepherds engaged annually to be paid at the rate of £3 10s per week. A weeks' work to consist of 54 hours; over that to be paid at the rate of time and a quarter. 2. Duties:—To drive employars' stock only. 3. Rations. —All rations and horse feed to be found by employer. 4. Day wage.—Man in charge of all stuck to be paid at the rate of 20s per day. All under 17s 6d par day. 5. Casual calls. —First hour or portion thereof, 7s fid; all succeeding hours, ss. 6. Conditions of drive. —Limited drive for one day not to exceed 10 miles; if asked to ride further, at the rate of Is per mile in a day. 7. Riding statje. 0 .—To lift sheep, not to exceed 25 miles per day, all over Is per mile will be charged. All drovers to he paid from the time they leave their headquarters until they return back to headquarters. Store sheep and cattle, 10 miles a , day. Fat sheep or cattle, 8 miles a ' day. I 8. sheep drives.—Number of sheep per man, up to 700 one man; 700 to 1,800, two men: 1,890 to 3,000, three men; 3,000 to 4,000, four men; 3,000 sheep or over to be allowed h packman without dogs. Cattle drives. —Up to 60 head, one man; up to 150 head, two men; up to 300, three men; any drive of two days or over that time sufficient dog meat muat be put into mob to last dogs for such drives. Each man or cattle drover I to be allowed one shilling each | extra on wages for dog's meat. All I drovers to be paid separately by his ! employer on delivery. Exchange ' added on all cheques, j Care of stock. —All care will he taken by drivers working on the above terms, but •no responsibility will be held through losses. 10. Qualifications.— Any man with one dog or over to come under these demands as a drover. 11. Preference. Preference to be given to all unionists.
