SECULAR EDUCATION.
At the meeting of the Masterton School Committee, last evening, the Chairman (Mr R. Brown) drew the attention of . the committee to a speech that had been made by the Minister of Education, in which he remarked that secular education was costing too much, and the question would have to be considered as to whether the people should not bear a proportion of the cost. Forecasts such as those made by the Minister usually had something behind them, and if ths responsibility of raising the money was cast upon the local bodies, then it mea'it tle end of the present system, which hi I w->rkrl so satisfactorily for many years. It was a question that evjry school committer in thu Domi lion, and a little discussion on it would prove beneficial.
