A MAN WHO COULD SAY "NO."
"I have often known people to sneer at Mr Seddon as a great opportunist," said the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, speaking a*; the unveiling ot the memorial to the deceased statesman at Onehunga on Wednesday last. "It is true, to some extent, that hp was a great opportunist, but he was never a propagandist. He was a great constructive statesman, and always knew how far he could go without getting a reaction. Many people urge us, as Ministers of the Crown, to go further and further, but, just as Mr Seddon did, we have to be careful not to go anead of public opinion. When it was urged that ho should go further and farther, and he did not approve of it, no one could say 'no' more emphatically than the late Prime Minister."
