WOOL SALES.
SPIRITED COMPETITION,
OPENING RATES MAINTAINED.
Received July 8. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, July 7. At the wool sales to-day there was a good demand. Opening rates were fully maintained. There was spirited competition for good wools, but shabbier sorts were rather slow of sale. By Telegraph Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 8. ' On enquiries being made amonpt Auckland wuC] it ascertained that the latesfc fitibtes in regard to the London wool sales had not aroused any very great surprise. The present sales came at the tail end of the season, and all the best shipments had previously passed under the hammer, hence the atateI ment in the cables published this morning that a "rubbishy selection was offered," is not likely to fee taken very much te heart by New Zealand and Australian growers. Both in the Commonwealth and the Dominion a vast proportion of tie wool is sold locally, and those growers who send Home direct to the London sales disposed of their best lots nmch earlier in the season.
