VALEDICTORY.

PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRS F. S. COOPER. A large gathering assembled at the Central Hotel, last evening, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs F. S. Cooper, who are relinquishing business in Masterton owing to the carrying of No-license. Mr C. A. Powriall occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks said they were assembled together to reluctantly say good-bye to Mr and Ms Cooper. During the time they had been in Masterton they had experienced an up-hill fight in business, and the carrying of Nolicense had dealt them a severe blow. They had both endeared themselves to many residents ot the community by the universal kindliness of heart and generosity. Their numerous friends, however, felt that they could not lat them depart from Masterton without showing in some degree the great regard and esteem they had for ("heir many qualities. Mr Pownall then handed Mr Cooper a very handsome illuminated address, attache.l to which were the signatures of about sixty residents from all parts ot the district. To Mrs Cooper the Chairman handed a silver hair-brush, har.d-mirror and comb and a silver trinket box. In conclusion, the Chairman said he was quite sure they would all join with him in wishing Mr and Mrs Cooper a prosprous career wherever they went. Messrs A. Haughey and R. E. Howell also referred in eulogistic terms to the many excellent qualities of their departing friends. Mr Cooper, in response, said that on behalf of hi* wife and himself he had to thank most sincerely those present for their kind and generous action. Although the carrying of Nolicense had ruined him, still it was some recompense to carry with him the remembrance of the kind expressions of good feeling shown that evening. He thanked all those tor their patronage and loyalty to him during his ntay in Masterton, and wished them all every happiness and prosperity. The gathering then dispersed.
