LONDON WOOL SALES.
JULY SERIES OPENED. PRICES FROM PAR TO A SLIGHT DECLINE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received July 7, 11.40 a.m. LONDON, July 6. The July aeries of wool sales has opened. There is a poor selection. Good average sorts sold at par, and faulties at 5 per cent, decline, as compared with closing rates at the last sales. PRIVATE ADVICES. AMERICANS OPERATING FREELY. Messrs Levin and Cfc»., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London Agents, the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd., in reference to July sales, which opened in London yesterday:—The sales have opened with a large attendance of buyers, Americans operating freely. Compared with the closing rates of l&at series. Fine crossbreds are to par, slipe wool was dropped 5 per cent., and Merino medium and coarse crossbred show a decline.ot from par to 5 per cent. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable message from their London house: — "Wool sales opened, with a lai'ge attendance of buyers, and competition fairly animated. A poor selection is being offered, hardly any merinos baing included. As compared with the closing rates of last series, shabby coarse crossbred and slipe wools are 5 per cent, lower, other descriptions unchanged." Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable from London:—"The sales have opened, with moderate competition and large attendance of buyers. There is a moderate demand -for all kinds of wool. Prices are unchanged. Current prices for Nurth Island farmers' lots, Palmprston North style: Coarse crossbreds, 36-40's, average condition, 9d to 9£d per lb; medium crossbreds, 44-46's, average condition, IOJd to lid per lb; fine crossbreds, 50's, average condition, 12gd to 14d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from iheir London house, under yesterday's date:—"Wool: There ~was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by American buyers being good, and prices, as comparad with the close of the preceding series, ruled about the same, except for shabby and wasty crossbreds, which afe easier. Slipe crossbred is 5 per cent. lower. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 6th:— "The wool sales commenced with a large attendance and good competition, values at the same price as at the end of last sale, except for inferior coarse crossbred, which is Jd cheaper. Present prices ruling are:—Superior merino, Is Id to Is 3£dper]b; medium merino, to Is ojd; inferior merino, 9d to ll^cl; fine crossbreds, all grades, Is Id to Is 4Jd; medium crossbreds, all grades, 10Jd to la 2d; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 7d to ll&d."
