CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Kesident importer).' Wednesday. Mr H. Wright, clerk at the local Railway Station, has received advice of his transfer to Wellington, and will be succeeded by Mr Ames, from Wellington. This morning Messrs W. McPartland and W; Wadham left on a fortnight's holiday at Auckland and Rotorua, travelling via the Main Trunk Line.
A benefit social in aid of Mr H.' Henderson, who had a leg broken in the Carterton-Gladstone match on Saturday last, is to be held here on July 22nd. The hall and music has free of charge.
The Borough Council have received a writ claiming £196 for extras, etc., in connection with the Carterton street improvement contract from the solicitor of Mr A. W. Jones, contractor. The case will be heard on Tuesday next. Last evening a social was held by the Methodist Ladies' Sewing Guilds There was a good attendance, and an enjoyable evening was spent. An ad« vertisement competition was won by Mr F. Butler, who received a cut glass salad bowl, presented by Mrs W. J. Elliott, and Miss P. Mansfield obtained the second trophy, a bag of sweets.
