PAHIATUA NEWS.

; Oar Resident Reporte*). Monday. The road between the town and the railway station would be much benefited by a few loads of metal in one or two wet placs. Last evening, at St. Peter's Church anniversary services were held, the Rev. Isaacson preaching an appropriate sermon. Another wedding is to take place at Konini this week. Mr Yule, of Mangamutu, has just commenced building a large cowshed, in which he is going to instal an up-tf/-date milking plant in readiness for the coming season. Strawberry plants out in bloom are to be seen in various parts of this district, and a sheep-farmer recently stated that the wool pest, the hutawai, was in bud, which he had never known to be so before at this period of the year. There was an extra large congregation at the Presbyterian Church, last evening, when Mr Charteris and the Boy Preacher occupied the pulpit. The choir rendered the anthem "Onward Christian Soldier," and a solo ■was also well rendered by Mr Clougb. Services will be held each evening by the above able speakers. The Golf Club team journeyed to Dannevirke on Saturday and started a match against a Dannevirke team, but I understand that on account of the boisterous weather the games were not properly finished. Enough butter to supply the local demand is still being manufactured at the Konini (Ballance No. 2) butter factory. The highest test at the factory is 5.88, and'the average is about 4.6. The manager. Mr Kelly, informed me to-day that at present, while the season is slack the factory plant is receiving a complete overhauling. MANGATAINOKA .NOTES. This season lias* iiuWeVefj beefl & splendid one for dalfy farmers al'olifld here, and everyone spQkfeh to report having had a read good season, while the stock has kept up in splendid condition. The senior football team journeyed to Hamua onJSaturday, and succeeded in deieating Hamua by 3 points to nil. E. Harvey scored a try, which was not converted. This player is very fast, and by good following up has scored the majority of tries obtained by our boys. On the local/'ground, the juniors and Nireaha juniors had a good game, an i a very even contest ended in a draw, Brockett scoring a try for Mangatainoka, Udy doing likewise for Nireaha. Towards the end of the game one of the Nireaha players was o'rclered off the field.

Considerable interest is being taken in the Woodville— Mangatainoka match on Wednesday next, on the Pomain, and a good game is anticipated. The footballers are arranging a social to take place about the middle of this month. The county metalling teams have been busy patching the roads about here. .
