JAPAN'S TRADE.
SERIOUS DECLINE. Received July 5, 5.10 a.m. SYDNEY. July 5. Mr Sutton, New South Wales Commercial Agent in the East, in his annual report, says that Japan is evidently passing through a serious phase in its history. The value of the Empire's exports last year was £5,416,000 less than in the preceding year, and the imports £5,880,000 less. It is the first time since 1868 that the exports have shown such a great falling off. *
