SOUTH WAIRARAPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Carterton Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the South Wairarapa County Council was held at Carterton on Saturday last, Cr W. Perry occupying the chair. The treasurer reported a debit balance oi £460 8s 5d at tha hank, and accounts amounting to £492 10s 9d were passed for payment. A case of scarlet fever was reported at Taratahi. Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P , wrote stating that he would do his best to get £l5O placed on the estimates for metalling Hoiki Road. The Masterton lown Clerk wrote asking the delegates appointed by the County Council to confer on the question of hospital and charitable aid to attend a meeting in Masterton on July 7th. Mr S. Compton, Clareville, wrote asking whether the Council would sell the gravel pit on the side of the main road, part section No. 202, and if so, at what price. As thera was a large amount of boulders in the pit, which would come in useful, when a stone crusher was procured, it was decided not to sell the pit. Mrs S. A. Smith applied for some gravel from the Council's pit, as the road in front of her gate was in a bad state. Councillors considered that if the water was stopped from over-running the water table 3, the matter would'be remelie',, The. question was finally le't in the hands of the Engineer. The Mackenzie County Council wrote stating that they were approaching the Government with a view of having "fourths" of rent of pastoral runs paid over to local bod iea for the co'r.slruction and rra intenance of roads giving access thereto, and asking the Council's co-operation by urging its member of Parliament to support an amendment to the Land Act, to give effect to the i proposal. It was decided to send a I copy of the letter to Mr W. C. BuI chanan.
Messrs W. Workman and Sons, Greytowi, wrote drawing attention j to the blocked water tables on Beef Creek Road, and the Engineer was instructed to attend to the matter. It was decided that Messrs Maunsell and.Hart be instructed to legalise the Admiral Run deviation. It was resolved to instruct Messrs Drummond and Hutton, surveyors, to survey the proposed Wangaehu Road deviation, and to prepare for the exchange of road sites and dedication. When this was done the solicitors could be instructed to arrange for the exchange. The matter of planting willows for protection at the Waingawa river was left to the River committee to attend to.
