METHODIST CHURCH.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. The fifty-third anniversary services of the Masterton Methodist Church were held' yesterday, when the Rev. C. E. Porter preached on all three occasions. There were very large congregations at each service. In the morning Mr Porter's serrnonette to the children was on "Boats." H 3 described three sorts of boats—the "school boat," in which they learn knowledge; the second, the "business boat," in which the form their characters; and, thirdly, the "home boat," in whch they acquired love. Mr Porter's sermon to the adult members of the congregation was of a very inspiring character. His subject was "Will Christianity Ultimately Prevail?" Tha choir rendered the anthem "ExaJt Him All Ye People." In the afternoon at 3 o'clock the service was of a special character. The church was crowded, 132 girls and 99 boys taking part in the special hymns under the conductorship of Mr S. H. Ralph. Mr Porter delivered a bright, short address on "Temptation, And How to Overcome Them," which was very much appreciated.
In the evening Mr Porter's subject was "The Power and Responsibility of Choosing," with which he dealt very ably. The congregation at this service was the largest of the day. The choir rendered the "Gloria" and "Break Forth Into Joy." The annual meeting of the Church will be held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening next.
