WELCOME TO MR A. W. HOGG.
LOCAL DEMONSTRATION FOR x THE EX-MINISTER. On hia arrival at the Masterton Railway Station on Saturday night, Mr Hogg, M.P., who was accompanied by, his wife and some members of his family, received a most hearty welcome from Mr R. Brown and a considerable number of leading c.tizens. The Masterton Bmi turned out and gave emphasis to the welcome by playing a number of selections. Arriving in the town, the .Band again played in Queen street, opposite fcne Club Hotei.
Mr Hogg addressed a numerous gathering of citizens from the ba'cony of the hotel. He warmly thanked the bandsmen for the honour they had paid him. and said the nature of bis reception at the railway station was a3 gratifying as it was unexpected. He was especially pleased to meet so many friends and supporters, including members of the Election Committee, who had fought with him shoulder to shoulder in bygone times. He would not inflict a speech on them by referring to the incidents of the last few days, as he meant to fully deal with those matters at his meeting on Tuesday night. Like other, parts of Mew Zealand that he had lately visited he found that Masterton had of late been suffering from the' widely prevailing depression; bftt he believed the clouds were passing, and the times were going to brighten again. The remarks were greeted with loud cheering.
